Engine Tanker 172 is our primary attack pumper for fighting house and
structure fires. It holds 1,500 gallons of water and has a Waterous
1000GPM pump.. It carries a maximum crew of 8 firefighters, an
officer and a driver.
The pump panel is the heart of an attack pumper. It
controls all water intake and outflow. The large red and silver steamer
intake (located in lower center) is used when large amounts of
water are needed. It can connect to a fire hydrant or used for drafting
water from creeks, streams or holding tanks. Each control valve is color
coded to help identify the corresponding hose.
The compartments on the drivers side contain hose
couplings, tools, spare air tanks and a positive pressure ventilation (PPV)
fan. The long black hoses at the top are rigid suction hoses ofter
referred to as "hard sleeves" are used for drafting water.
This view shows the drivers seat. The officer sits to the
right and is responsible for providing directions, radio communications
and activating sirens and air horns.
